The MRS Fin Whale lives up to its name as a giant of the packraft world—designed for massive space and impressive performance. As the latest masterpiece from MRS, the Fin Whale combines the speed of the popular MRS Barracuda R2 with unprecedented hauling capacity. It is the perfect choice for families, expedition paddlers carrying heavy gear, or anyone who simply appreciates a spacious interior.

The Fin Whale takes space utilization to a new level, offering up to 30% more interior room compared to the Barracuda R2. The extended hull and streamlined design—inherited from the R2—ensure there is plenty of room for both paddlers to work effectively without bumping into each other. The front section is large enough to accommodate a large dog or a couple of children. For added comfort, the front paddler can utilize the included inflatable footrest. The raft also comes with a pair of strap handles that can be attached to the bow and stern for easy tandem carrying after landing—just remember not to carry the raft while it is fully loaded!

The adjustable front seat can be moved forward or backward, allowing for flexible space distribution for gear, kids, or pets. The rear seat has been moved slightly forward to improve hull balance and tracking, which also opens up some storage space behind the paddler for light luggage.

Unlike many standard models, the Fin Whale is constructed from more durable 420D nylon, making the tubes exceptionally rigid. This is especially noticeable when the raft is loaded, as it maintains its shape perfectly and glides through the water with ease.

Inflating: A very convenient accessory for every packraft owner is the Flextailgear Max Pump. Whether you inflate your packraft with this pump or a fill bag, the final touches should be done with strong breaths (through the one-way valve on top). To ensure the best user experience, the Barracuda R2 should be inflated thoroughly to prevent folding in the middle. Instead of blowing, the finishing touches can also be easily done using the MRS foot pump.

Paddle recommendation: The MRS Fin Whale has enough length for both paddlers to comfortably use kayak paddles, ensuring maximum speed and efficiency. A 220 cm long Melomo paddle is ideally suited for versatile touring use. If you prefer a more relaxed paddling pace, you can use the Melomo Hybrid to create canoe paddles to avoid water splashes. Optimal combination: 2 x Melomo paddle + 1 x Hybrid handles.

If your packraft happens to need repairs on one of your adventures, we recommend to carry the included packraft repair kit. We recommend the Helaplast glue for installing the hull & floor patch materials included with the packraft.
